(6/30)
A LOT to do on Monday. We got to school to leave at 6:45am! ugh. We were told to be there "on the dot" but apparently this information was not shared with the bus driver. He came 30 minutes late.

Once the bus arrived, we boarded and headed towards Trier, the oldest Roman city in Germany. The age of these places is SO fascinating to me. The city gate is still there from the 2nd century and it was actually built without mortar. Interesting fact. We visited the cathedral there which was incredible, as usual. They keep "the robe of Christ" there. Legend/tradition has it that the robe belonged to Christ so they enshrined it at the church. It's neat, but I'm not so sure it matters much in the long run. Still interesting, though. We had lunch in Trier before heading to...

Luxemburg. "So small, but so great...Luxemburg." We heard that line on our tour and it just killed us. Plus, the person said it all seductively...hilarious. We got to ride around on this little train that had headsets for all of us to listen to the history and stuff. There were buttons to select which language you heard and of course the kids kept pressing different languages on other kids' headsets. Julie was REALLY annoyed, but I thought it was hilarious, the adult that I am. We also got a flat tire on the trip! The train guy fixed it really quickly, though. I suppose I should explain it only LOOKED like a train, but it was one of those "tour trains" on regular wheels.

We ate lunch in Luxemburg and shopped for a while. A couple funny things were: This beggar (who had a huge backpack and looked fine) would just walk up to people and shove his hand in their direction, never saying anything. I watched him for about 10 minutes and he didn't get anything except a high five from one guy. That was funny. I wanted to tell him to change his tactics, but I never did.

Also, Julie and I got some ice cream and went to eat it on these benches. We noticed a small group of drunks near us and I said, "Well, that ruins that atmosphere a bit" but we stayed where we were. Then one of the guys walked behind us and started peeing on the wall!!! Julie stood up and goes, "Now the atmosphere is officially ruined" and we walked away. Funny, but disgusting stuff.

We left Luxemburg a little late and endured the LONG bus ride home which arrived about 8:30pm. Very long day, but we had a great time.
